Ocean Freight Rates Under Pressure from Demand and Fuel Costs
Shipping costs are rising as cargo volumes increase globally and oil prices remain elevated due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Shipping companies are adding extra fuel surcharges, and freight rates are expected to continue climbing through the middle of the year.
These additional fuel fees may stabilize by July if oil prices level off. Global cargo volumes continue to grow, particularly out of Asia, though North American trade lanes are seeing softer demand. Limited vessel space due to longer rerouting around the Suez Canal and congested ports is compounding the rate pressure.
