A Cap on Costs: Imported Rice Prices Limited to P50 per Kilogram

Executive Order No. 118 Imposes P50/kg Price Cap on Imported Rice

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a temporary P50-per-kilogram price ceiling on imported rice to address rising prices and alleged market abuse amid supply disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis. Under Executive Order No. 118, the cap will apply to imported rice with 5-percent broken content for 30 days, following the recommendation of the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC).

The order directs the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Agriculture (DA) to enforce the price ceiling, while the Bureau of Customs (BOC) will intensify anti-smuggling operations. The measure takes effect immediately upon publication.
